Is a tank replacement necessary if I have persistent odors or misreading sensors?

Very, very rarely. These types of problems are usually caused by unclean tanks that contain a buildup of waste within them.

While most RV owners think that they do a good job of keeping their RV holding tanks clean, adding enzyme-, biological-, or harsh chemical-based additives, “cleaners,” and digesters only make the problem worse.

These actually do what they are advertised to do — dissolve tank contents — but they dissolve it into a thick, sticky, pancake batter-like substance that can be virtually impossible to get out.

The tank’s thick mess now sticks to your tank’s sensors, rendering them inaccurate at best and completely inoperable in most cases.

Likewise, because this sludge never leaves the tank, it decomposes and the smell only gets worse.

A thorough hydrojet cleaning of your waste tanks by a qualified and experienced professional RV holding tank cleaning service will almost always solve all of these problems, making tank replacement unnecessary.
